Where Literacy Meets Wellness

Get to Know Us
Communities Promoting Reading is a New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping families improve literacy and wellness across generations. Since 2018, we’ve created and supported programs that help both children and adults in New York and New Jersey build reading skills, connect with their communities, and live healthier lives. When COVID-19 hit, we adapted our programs to focus even more on supporting literacy and wellness at home.
We work closely with local partners—including Raymour & Flanigan, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Englewood Public Library, Medgar Evers College, and more—to make a bigger impact. Thanks to these collaborations, we’ve seen real results: in 2019, adult students in Brownsville increased their high school equivalency rates by 25%, and in 2024, library card registrations in Bergen County grew by 20%.
We also partner with the New York State Department of Health to help families understand and access health services. Our trained staff work with local organizations to bring health and literacy programs to both rural and urban communities, connecting families with the resources they need.
Through our history of partnerships and programs, Communities Promoting Reading has grown into a trusted supporter of families, helping people of all ages improve literacy, health, and overall well-being.
